The Netherlands

The Netherlands lie on the western edge of the European continent. The Wadden Sea divides the country into numerous small islands and the mainland. It is therefore not surprising that bodies of water, such as lakes, rivers and canals, make up nearly 17 percent of the territory. Due to its close proximity to the sea, the climate in the Netherlands is cool in summer and mild and wet in winter. Precipitation is spread relatively uniformly throughout the year. The special thing about the Netherlands is that nearly half the land is below sea level. Using special techniques, flooded areas have been drained, bit by bit, to make land for farming. These days that is roughly two thirds of the entire area and is also where HiPP grows its organic carrots.
